Recently, I started my day, as I generally do, with a cup of Earl Grey and a quick browse around Google News.
Now, I wouldn’t suggest that anyone use the crazy mashup of a Google News page as a usage guide, but this headline stood out as one I particularly disliked:
“Stay true to yourself, advises previous woman winner of Nobel Peace Prize.”
Yes, Pace Communications and I are absolutely, 110 percent devoted to excellence. But let me break this to you gently: No company, organization or individual is ever going to get everything right all the time, down to the last tiny detail. That’s not realistic.
OK, sure, the concept of sharing examples of unfortunate choices in grammar, spelling and punctuation is not new. The figurative red pen is wielded to good effect by editorially minded types like the Grammar Vandal and The Society for the Promotion of Good Grammar. But I don’t believe this market, if a bit damp, is yet saturated to the level of puddle formation. And, hey, pointing out and improving ineffective communication is what I do.
Pace Communications announces a new blog series: reviews of top magazines' websites. An intrepid band of Pace bloggers, old and new, are at this very moment tracking the websites of mags on the Top 10 ABC Magazines by Circulation roster and the Adweek Hot List 2010 and getting ready to share what they learn.
