Actually, it’s the Custom Content Council. I omitted the word “Custom” because the title without it sounded like a good band name—like the Style Council—only with substance!
Incidentally, I came across the best name ever for a new band (a real one—from Scotland): “We Were Promised Jetpacks.” What an awesome name! And one that trumps an earlier effort of mine a few years ago: “Wally Jamblat and the Druze Militia.” It never caught on. Can’t think why. I wish the Jetpacks well—their music is excellent, by the way, and you can check them out at SXSW this month, as well as on Facebook.
Anyway, I digress. The Custom Content Council is the new name for the Custom Publishing Council—a signal, if ever there was one, of the changes that are taking place in our sector. So I decided to fire a few questions at Lori Rosen, executive director of the CCC.
Craig: What brought about the change of name?
Lori: "Content" is the most apt word for what our members do, posing no limitations on distribution channels. We’ve been bantering this change for some time now among the Council board—and finally the stars aligned. We haven’t looked back since.
Craig: Did you think about any other names?
Lori: There were a lot of options. Custom Media Council was a close second.
Craig: What proportion of your members’ work is now Web-based rather than print-based?
Lori: I would say that the majority, if not all of our members, produce integrated programs for their clients: print, digital, mobile, video and more.
Craig: What other trends are you seeing?
Lori: Social media continues to take up more bandwidth. It’s still evolving for sure.
Craig: I hear you have a conference coming up?
Lori: We are all heading to Nashville at the end of this month for the Custom Content Conference, where we will hear from marketers, social media gurus, consumer behavior experts and even the first human billboard who wears T-shirts for a living. The changing media landscape offers a lot of opportunities for custom content companies, so count on a lot of discussions around this topic. We’ll also enjoy some down-home country music and food.
