Barnes & Noble Sells 650,000 Subscriptions for the NOOK

B&N offers 120 periodicals for NOOKcolor

Barnes & Noble’s NOOK newsstand has sold 650,000 subscriptions and single copies of their 120 periodical titles, due to the large success of their newest color touch-screen e-reader, the NOOKcolor. Since Christmas, B&N reports that they have sold 150 percent more subscriptions than they did in the previous year.

Periodicals for the NOOK are offered at a reasonable subscription rate (about $15 yearly) with the option to buy single issues. Their subscription sales model trumps Apple’s, which has experienced a decrease in magazine sales for the iPad due to a lack of affordable subscriptions.

In a press statement, Jonathan Shar, vice president and general manager of digital newsstand at Barnes & Noble said, “We’ve had overwhelmingly positive feedback from our content partners as well and will continue to build upon our vast collection of periodicals and incorporate even more interactivity for NOOKcolor customers this year.”

The NOOK newsstand’s bestselling magazines are US Weekly, Cosmopolitan, National Geographic, Reader’s Digest, Maxim, Star, O- the Oprah Magazine, Food Network Magazine, and Women’s Health and Shape. The bestselling newspapers include USA TODAY, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
