Building a Brand: Custom Content Agencies Do It Better

Julia Child

It’s all in the details—such as finding out Julia’s Child's favorite restaurant for tacos—that makes a custom content agency suitable for promoting your brand.

One aspect that I love about working with the Destination Publishing Group is that it's a daily lesson in Great American Cities. As a not-so-proud member of Generation X, I somehow missed geography and history in school. While I made all A’s and B’s in those subjects, I apparently memorized the facts via flashcards and dumped them all on multiple-choice tests, thus erasing them from my brain forever. At least that what’s I thought . . .

At Destination Publishing, we cover the basics: where the cities are located and their history (thus making me feel much “Smarter than a Fifth Grader”). But it takes more than just those basics to produce award-winning custom content about them.

We have to get to know the city and the people who make it tick. It takes a lot of time, a lot of careful listening and a lot of attention to detail. Our mission is to pique the interest of a broad audience: tourists looking for their next vacay, executives in search of a new locale for their headquarters and homeowners in need of a change of scenery.

Our mantra: We don’t just regurgitate the same tired ol’ travel information. We search for new details that inspire even the natives to get out and explore their hometowns. We dig deeper for those “a-ha” moments that even locals might not know.

Want me to prove it? Here’s what I know about the following destinations that you may just find out:

Fresno, California, is the world’s fruit, nut and vegetable basket, with nearly $20 billion in total agricultural economic impact. (Only mangoes and macadamia nuts don’t grow there, but pretty much everything else does.)

• America’s favorite letter-turner, Vanna White, got her start as a contestant in the Miss Sun Fun pageant in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, before she became famous on “Wheel of Fortune.” (Or just plain “Wheel,” if you’re a fan.)

• You can find the best homemade tacos and tamales in the world at La Super-Rica taqueria in Santa Barbara, California. The local joint was a favorite of resident Julia Child, herself.

Omaha, Nebraska, is a large, urban city that’s almost smack dab in the center of the country. Thus it has become a major data-center hub for the likes of Yahoo!, PayPal and Google. (No pesky hurricanes to worry about.)

• Portland, Maine, has a nationally lauded restaurant scene and allegedly is second to San Francisco, California, in number of restaurants per capita.

Most of all, I’m proud to say that, yes, I can plot them all on a map!
