Sue Polinsky of Converge South introduces Robert Scoble
Pace’s (@pacecomm) ongoing Twitter hashtag event, #custcontent, featured a lively discussion this past week with Sue Polinsky (@SuePolinsky) of Tech Triad (@techtriad), an online strategy firm based in Greensboro, and volunteer organizer for the Converge South conference (@convergesouth10), a national technology users' conference held in Greensboro, N.C., Oct 1–2 2010.
In its fifth year, the conference has a reputation for drawing big-name speakers, such as author and blogger Robert Scoble.
During the discussion, we talked to Sue about creating content for events. As volunteer chair for Converge South, Polinsky has a hand in everything from choosing speakers and event content to marketing the event to the community via a number of social media channels. Sue gave us an inside look at what it takes to put on and market such an event. A few highlights:
@pacecomm How do you develop content for a conference?
@SuePolinsky 1st year, we had content all over the conference; too much of it. We started focusing it each ensuing year.
@SuePolinsky Narrowing down means leaving something out; so we surveyed attendees for focus areas this year.
@SuePolinsky Took highest-rated topics & made tracks/sessions; then we sought presenters who "get."
@pacecomm What are some of the things you're excited about for this year's @convergesouth10?
@SuePolinsky First, let's make the big announcement. I believe our famous guest will be Craig Newmark (some details TBD).
@SuePolinsky Also excited about "Pitch Camp," f/entrepreneurs to learn how to pitch VCs.
Our discussion also sparked an interesting side chat about social media engagement relating to government officials and members of the media. For more of the chat, just search #custcontent on Twitter.
#custcontent is held every Thursday, 1p.m. EST, on Twitter. To join the discussion, log onto Twitter, and enter #custcontent in the search box.
Join us next week as we welcome Christopher Thomas-Moore of Exclusively Weddings. We’ll chat with him about content strategy for catalogs, and how EW uses blogs and social media to interact with clients.
