FOLIO:'s chart of the top mags on Twitter
A report from FOLIO: magazine shows the numbers and rankings for the top 50 magazines that are most followed on Twitter. Their inspiration was a magazine count done by The Wrap in October.
As of January 31, the top-ranked magazines are People and Time, with just over 2.3 million followers each. Vogue magazine showed the greatest increase in followers, at 58 percent from October to January, even though Vogue remains ranked number 47 with about 103,000 followers. Rolling Stone and The New Yorker also had a substantial increase in followers—about 30 percent over the same three months.
These numbers reflect the publishing industry’s ongoing and increasing attention to social media and its uses. Time’s executive editor, Jim Frederick, says that the magazine has an entire team of people who work on their Twitter feed. The issue facing publishers now is how to monetize their Twitter followings.
