Pace Communications Names New Group Publisher of Infight Media

Greensboro, NC (April 1, 2008)—A leader in creating custom content, Pace Communications has named a new member to its management team. Rik Gates joins Pace on March 31, 2008, as group publisher, Pace Airline Media. Gates brings a background in advertising sales and international business. He worked the last six years at Business Week, where he was New York regional ad director and vice president for international sales. A Canadian native, he began his career in banking in Toronto, then spent 11 years — from 1991 to 2002 — working overseas. He developed English language curricula in Japan, then worked in sales for Time, Inc. in Hong Kong, Singapore, and London.

As group publisher, Gates reports to Craig Waller, president of Pace Airline Media and chief marketing and sales officer. Gates’ aim is to grow sales revenue by “working smarter, by looking at the business in a totally different way,” he says. “I want to foster more collaboration, more creativity…. My job will be to motivate the sales team to starting thinking in a little more focused way, a little more creatively.”

“Pace is a great company representing great brands,” Gates adds. “This is a challenging position, and I love challenges.”

“Bringing Rik on as group publisher is a signal of our commitment to grow the inflight media category and to develop new and innovative programs for advertisers,” says Waller. “We are thrilled that he is joining our team.”

Pace Airline Media consists of four inflight publications: United Hemispheres, Delta Sky, US Airways Magazine and Southwest Spirit. Additionally, Pace handles inflight programming aspects for Delta, United and Virgin America. The Pace Communications In-Flight Entertainment team is responsible for the development and execution of multi-media product strategies which include feature film, short subject and audio content selection, procurement and logistics management.
