Governor, US Airways Recognize the Charlotte USAA 20, Dynamic Regional Women

Women in the Charlotte region—and the state—definitely have had a higher profile over the last several years. And on Thursday, Governer Bev Perdue and US Airways will recognize 20 of these dynamic women.

On Dec. 1 at a 5:30 p.m., in a reception at the uptown Mint Museum, the governor and Ambassador Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, CEO and owner of Pace Communications, will honor the “Charlotte USA 20” who appear in the December issue of US Airways Magazine that’s already on US Airways flights throughout the world.

“‘The Charlotte USA 20: Celebrating Dynamic Women’ is an opportunity for US Airways and Pace Communications to acknowledge women’s contributions to this world-class community,” McElveen-Hunter said.

Members of the 16-county Charlotte region nominated nearly 100 women who have shaped the region. The feature, “The Charlotte USA 20: Celebrating Dynamic Women,” is the first in what the magazine plans as a series that focuses on women across the country in cities to which US Airways flies. A committee representing the diversity of the region chose the 21 featured women (there was a tie) who:
•    Are clearly leaders in her field
•    Have made recognizable impact toward improving the lives of others in the greater Charlotte region
•    Have fostered growth and advancement in their communities

The special 24-page section in December’s US Airways Magazine will reach 5.6 million passengers. The 21 women being honored are:
