Winterthur Museum & Country Estate Partners With Pace Communications For New Magazine

Greensboro, N.C. (October 16, 2006)—Pace Communications, the world’s largest private custom publishing company, will debut the new Winterthur Magazine, a quarterly periodical inspired by the style and beauty of the historic du Pont family estate, beginning in November 2006. The editorial direction will be led by Susan Weissman, the editor of City Reports, Pace Communication’s award-winning regional travel and economic profiles. It will include features by high-profile authors and art historians, including Liz Seymour, a regular contributor to The New York Times, and Jonathan Lerner, a contributor to a variety of lifestyle and fine arts publications.

“This beautiful and intelligent magazine will expose art lovers around the country to an American gem, and elevate Winterthur within the pantheon of the world’s great museums,” said Leslie Greene Bowman, Director of Winterthur Museum & Country Estate. “Winterthur’s extensive collection of American decorative arts is the most comprehensive in the world, and our garden is one of the nation’s finest. The magazine will expose this great academic and cultural resource to a wider audience.”

The publication’s editorial content will provide lifestyle inspiration through feature articles on upcoming exhibitions, the seasonal wonders of Henry Francis du Pont’s gardens, collection acquisitions and behind-the-scenes features on Winterthur’s expert curatorial and conservation activities . The magazine will introduce readers to the wealth of Winterthur inspired products created by licensees such as Hickory Chair, Chelsea House and Mottahedeh.

Beginning in November, the quarterly publication will offer a fresh look at events, exhibits and classes at the Winterthur estate, including a preview of the upcoming Yuletide festivities, an insider’s look at the Fashion in Film exhibition and a feature on Thomas Jayne, one of the country’s leading decorative arts designers and experts.

The magazine will be distributed to 50,000 households in 2007 and will be tailored to a distinctive demographic of members and visitors. Winterthur Magazine readers are well educated, sophisticated and affluent with a genuine interest in the preservation and celebration of American decorative arts. More than 65 percent of readers have a household income exceeding $100,000. Full and half page advertising will be offered to select brands, totaling 10-12 pages of the 48-page magazine, providing a unique opportunity for upscale products and services.

A longtime leader in the custom-publishing field, Pace Communications is uniquely positioned to help Winterthur expand its content to better serve current members and attract new readership.

“Winterthur is a vibrant American institution that speaks to the interests of an educated and affluent audience,” says Craig Waller, chief marketing and sales officer for Pace Communications. “Pace is an expert at reaching these readers with smart copy and elegant design, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to raise the profile—along with the public’s awareness—of Winterthur.”
