United Hemispheres wins top honor at World Airline Entertainment Association 2006 Avion Awards
Published by Pace Communications––United’s Hemispheres Only Second American Publication to Win “World’s Best Inflight Magazine” in Award’s 18-Year History

Greensboro, NC (September 27)—Pace Communications, the world’s leading custom publisher, announced that its prestigious United Hemispheres magazine was honored with a World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA) 2006 Avion Award for “World’s Best Inflight Magazine.”

Nominated for more awards than any other carrier, United is an established leader in inflight entertainment, and Hemispheres distinguished itself with distinctive features and columns in combination with outstanding editorial copy and leading design.

“Hemispheres’ writers and editors are constantly working to make the magazine better—better than the previous issue and better than the other publications that are out there,” said Craig Waller, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer of Pace Communications. “And when the WAEA names it ‘the best,’ we are deeply honored.”
The WAEA Avion Awards are presented annually to those airlines with the finest inflight entertainment in the world and are judged by an independent international panel comprised of 23 leading media executives, critics, producers, editors, and academics from Australia, Brazil, India, Italy, Singapore, Sweden, the United Kingdom., and the United States.

The inflight entertainment offerings were judged for “originality,” “suitability,” “production value,” “content,” and “balance.” The judges evaluated more than 160 samples of inflight audio, video, print, and interactive media that appeared in commercial airline service from June 2005 through May 2006, representing 42 passenger airlines worldwide. This year’s awards were announced during a special ceremony held in conjunction with the WAEA Annual Conference and Exhibition in Miami, Florida.

Hemispheres has been recognized in the past for its outstanding inflight entertainment, winning the Avion Award for “Best Overall Inflight Entertainment” in 2000, 2001 and 2004. The magazine has been nominated for “World's Best Inflight Magazine” in the past, but this year marks its first win in the highly competitive category.
