Pace Communications Announces Groundbreaking Deal to Produce New US Airways Magazine Greensboro, NC (December 12, 2005) — Pace Communications, the world’s largest private custom publishing company and one of the most award-winning publishers in the category, has announced that it will produce the new US Airways Magazine for customers of the new US Airways that has emerged as the result of the merger between America West and US Airways. The new publication, to be helmed by five-time Gold Folio Award–winning editor Lance Elko, will debut in January 2006. Veteran magazine industry professional Andrea Alexander, formerly of Hearst, Meredith and American Express Publishing, has been hired by Pace as its new publisher. US Airways Magazine, which replaces America West Magazine and US Airways’ Attaché magazine, will have a print run of 375,000 copies per month and will be found on all daily flights flown by America West and US Airways and their regional partners. The first issue is expected to weigh-in at over 200 pages. “The fresh positioning of the magazine will reflect the smart ‘business casual’ approach of the low-cost airline that reflects the new US Airways,” says Elko. “It will feature travel, culture, and lifestyle – covered with a light heart and a sense of humor – and inspiring photography that will grab readers and hold their attention.” Pace Communications will be working in partnership with the former publishers of the America West publication, Skyword Marketing, based in Phoenix, near the corporate head office of US Airways in Tempe, Ariz. “Pace is thrilled to have the new US Airways Magazine in our stable,” said Craig Waller, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer for Pace Communications. “We’re experiencing tremendous advertising growth in the category and with passenger numbers at an all time high, we believe that the new US Airways Magazine will match the business success of the airline in 2006.” Other in-flights that Pace Communications produces include United’s Hemispheres and Delta Air Line’s Sky. This year alone, the Eddie and Ozzie Awards, the ‘Oscars’ of the publishing world, awarded Pace Communications in-flights with a Bronze Ozzie, as well as Silver. A Gold Eddie Award went to US Airways’ Attaché Magazine at this year’s Folio Awards. On November 18, the North Carolina-based custom publishing company took home 10 top awards at The Custom Publishing Council’s (CPC) annual Pearl Awards gala dinner. Through these awards, the CPC—along with its panel of esteemed judges—celebrate excellence in journalism, graphic design, publication packaging and the development and execution of integrated marketing strategies built around custom publication. Pace Communications: For more than thirty years, Pace Communications, the world’s largest private custom publishing company, has been producing results-driven, award-winning custom magazines for some of the most recognizable names in the corporate and non-for-profit sectors. US Airways: US Airways and America West’s recent merger creates the fifth largest domestic airline employing nearly 35,000 aviation professionals.
